In 2010, the Japan Prize was awarded in the field of Industrial Production and Production Technology to Professor Shun-ichi Iwasaki for contributions to high-density magnetic recording technology by the development of perpendicular magnetic recording and in the field of Biological Production and Environment to Professor Peter Vitousek for his contributions to solving global environmental issues based on the analysis of nitrogen and other substances’ cycles.
